Happy Weekend! I am terrible at photo prompts, but this one is special. Today is the first day of #100daysofHalloweenHappy —can you believe it’s 100 days away? 👻

I love this #photochallenge so much because #Halloween is the best day of the year. The fall weather, boots and jackets, and all those fall flavors! Apple donuts are my fav!

Today’s prompt is a SELFIE + 3 FACTS. Sounds easy enough, so here we go…

1. I never had cats until I became an adult.
2. The first horror movie I ever watched was The Exorcist. The first horror novel I read was Stephen King’s The Shining. The first true crime book I read was Small Sacrifice by Ann Rule. All at the ages of 6, 7, & 8.
3. I have been diagnosed with ADHD and OCD, which means my brain is organized chaos.

I can’t manage a photo prompt everyday (see fact #3), but hopefully I’ll do a few more.

Another day, another book recommendation. I guarantee that S.A. Cosby’s RAZORBLADE TEARS will be one of the best books you’ll read all year. I devoured BLACKTOP WASTELAND, but RAZORBLADE TEARS knocked me on my ass.

In the words of the great Stephen King, “Cosby is the real deal”. He’s an ingenious storyteller. I don’t know how he does it, but I was fully invested in the characters, deep into the story, and all the while raced through the pages. Cosby writes a gritty, visceral, and emotional story of revenge. And yes, there is violence, but there’s also a lot of heart. There has never been a title more suited for its book than RAZORBLADE TEARS. This is an action-packed heartbreaker of a story. It cut me, it cut me bad.

Ike Randolph has been out of jail for fifteen years, with not so much as a speeding ticket in all that time. But a Black man with cops at the door knows to be afraid. Happy Pub Day to @chuck_wendig’s THE BOOK OF ACCIDENTS. I read this 544 page book a few months ago and I’M STILL SHOOK. I never stopped reading to take notes (rookie mistake 🤦🏼‍♀️) because I was too immersed in the story. I’m going back through the book now to take notes for my upcoming detailed review. Be sure to watch this space 👀

One hundred million stars for the adaptation of St

One hundred million stars for the adaptation of Stephen King’s LISEY’S STORY. The ending was perfect in every way. Julianne Moore and Clive Owen were outstanding. I was mesmerized by the beautiful imagery and the emotion behind every scene. SO GOOD.

From what I’ve heard it helps to have some knowledge of the book going in. That’s not necessarily my opinion, but it could be why the feedback for this show is so divisive. I can only speak for myself and say I LOVED IT.

What is your favorite #StephenKing adaptation?

My favs are LISEY’S STORY, Misery, Dolores Claiborne, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, IT, Carrie, The Mist, The Shining (I know I know, but it was branded into my soul before I knew the truth), Doctor Sleep, 11/22/63, Secret Window, and Stand by Me.

Each one feeds into the next, each one a stain. With each passing offering I grow ever closer to the discovery that’s sheltered and nestled deep within – the filthy secret and stain that remains. The secret of what it truly took to kill a child.”

Consider the above quote your “proceed with caution” warning for ONLY THE STAINS REMAIN by @rossjefferyauthor. This is an unapologetic story of child abuse, so to say it is dark would be an insult to your intelligence. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but this feels different from other horrific child abuse stories I’ve read. Much like the late great Jack Ketchum, Jeffery writes the most uncomfortable scenes that are difficult to read, but somehow keeps you engaged. The writing is raw, honest, and shows respect for the delicate subject matter.

We follow two siblings, Jude and his older brother, Kyle. They had a loving relationship with their mother, as well as each other, but just after she passed away, the monsters she kept at bay their entire life, arrive. Their three uncles are the literal translation of what it is to be a monster. And their father, the worst offender, let the uncles have unrestricted access to the boys’ innocence.

ONLY THE STAINS REMAIN took me down a notch, but I have to admit it was mostly because of Kyle. There was something extraordinary about him and he has a permanent place in my broken heart.

Today is my mom’s birthday so we went to San Francisco to watch the Giants play. My dude Brandon Crawford hit the only home run and they won 10-4. Woohoo 🎉

On another note, who loves #truecrime all day long like I do? I seriously cannot get enough of it. THE ULTIMATE EVIL by Maury Terry is about the Son of Sam case back in the 70s and I am here for it. There is also a @netflix #docuseries that I cannot wait to check out. If you’re anything like me, you probably think #DavidBerkowitz is full of sh*t and cannot be trusted 😂

Do you like #bookclubs and buddy reads?! I love them, but sometimes I start too late or too early. I’m a total binge reader, which makes discussing the book as we are reading a bit difficult 😂 I usually discuss a book after I finish it or after I review it 🤷🏼‍♀️

#QuickTake - SURVIVE THE NIGHT is the perfect summer read! Although I am a definite year-round #RileySager reader, it pairs well with being on a beach sipping a daiquiri. The story is gripping, suspenseful, and propulsive. I could not put it down, nor did I want to. Let’s just say, I had a blast reading it. I am kicking myself that I didn’t order a signed copy because I am obsessed with Mr. Sager and all his talent.

Do you consider yourself an Influencer? I never even thought about the term. I started my #Bookstagram on a whim when I read a #book I loved and needed a place to share it. You know the feeling, right? But now looking back, I guess I could technically be called an influencer. I enthusiastically PUSH BOOKS onto people. Nothing gets me more excited than when I read a great story and I want the #bookish world to know about it. I like what I do, because #reading is my happy place. And what’s even more fun is finding other #readers to connect with.

I cannot stress this enough, I am not fancy.
