Another edition of #bookrecquickies because I cannot recommend Leslie Jamison’s collection of essays enough. MAKE IT SCREAM, MAKE IT BURN is part memoir, part journalism, and part criticism, but all of it is intelligent, candid, and emotive. She’s a true talent, a gifted writer, and a unique voice. ★★★★★

It’s #nonfictionnovember and I am here for it! I’ve read half of these books and I’m hungry for more. I love #nonfiction because if it’s done right, it’s learning made easy. I am an observer of human behavior and fascinated by experiences other than my own. And on the flip side, knowing there is someone else out there going through a similar experience so you don’t feel so alone. But mostly, I just love to learn 🔥🔥

*fashionably late* Today is #beautyandthebookbirthday so I dug this one out of the vault. Jamie aka @beauty_andthebook_ has always been kind and is super easy to talk to. She loves contemporary romance, but also reads a ton of thrillers (a gal after my own heart). I love that she’s an eclectic reader with fantastic book recommendations. If you haven’t wished Jamie a happy birthday yet, there’s still time (go, I’ll wait😉)

So there is something else...I’ve seen some bizarre, unnecessary, and unkind chatter about @abookorafewandjavatoo being too old for #bookstagram - that’s just rubbish. Nobody is too old or too anything for that matter to have a passion for reading. Since when did this place become an exclusive club? I’m not saying you’re not entitled to your opinion, but just unfollow a person if you don’t agree or love their book account - there’s no need to be nasty - simply #moveon
.
YES there is a Ring Pop in this photo and NO I don’t feel the need to explain. This photo was taken in August of this year, the month I turned 42. Yep, I’m 42 years old. I love reading more than anything (except Abby 🐱), and I collect Harry Potter books, misc bookmarks, Funko Pops, coffee mugs, and a ton of special editions I don’t need. Horror, thrillers, and true crime are my happy place. The only thing that shows “my age” per say is my deep love of nonfiction and history 🤓 (if that’s a thing). My advice: DON’T BE JUDGMENTAL - it’s my biggest pet peeve, it does nobody any good, and it’s one of the worst qualities a person can have. Toodles 👋🏻

I sure do and this is one of many reasons why I love the @night_worms subscription box. Not only does it support indies, but it is book focused (although I’m not gonna lie, I need that mug) subscription box. I have been a customer since day one and I’ve never looked back. I’ve discovered so many of my favorite authors that I wouldn’t have known if it wasn’t for @mother.horror and @bookishmommy’s amazing work on promoting what they love...HORROR. I love these ladies for what they do.

If you are looking for recommendations, even if you prefer them on the lighter side, hit me up or better yet, hit up the @night_worms crew for spot on recommendations. My advice to you is don’t be afraid of the dark. And don’t let these scary covers fool you, some of these stories have a lot of heart 🌑🐛

It’s the weekend! Instead of doing what I want, I’m going to be an adult and clean the heck out of my house. Which includes finally finishing my library. BUT as a gold star for my labor we are going to treat ourselves to see DOCTOR SLEEP tomorrow! Always give yourself something to work for...amiright? I have never been so excited 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I wore this shirt on a day when we had hurricane like winds at a charity event called Spirits and Bites for a local animal shelter. The winds were miserable and the power was out most of the time, but it was still a blast. One of the reasons I had so much fun is this shirt. At least 10 people asked what my favorite #StephenKing book is. Anything I can do to generate conversation about Stephen King’s books is a win. Also, I had my tote that said “Ask Me What I’m Reading” and several people did just that. Even though I’m an introvert I love nothing more than to talk about books. I even met an owner at @clementinecoffeebar who wants to collaborate with me on a book recommendation shelf for the coffee shop! I am so jazzed about it 💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼

I finished @aliwong’s book a few days ago and I have to say, she’s hilarious. I enjoyed her raunchy sense of humor immensely. Her writing style is fresh and she certainly doesn’t hold anything back. I highly recommend this one!

#BookReview | The cover of @adamlgnevill’s THE REDDENING first caught my eye on @mother.horror’s page when she posted her special edition copy. Unfortunately for me the hardcovers were all sold out, but Adam kindly offered to send me a free signed paperback. He is incredibly generous and I am so grateful for my copy because, guess what?!...I loved it.

Kat is a lifestyle journalist who escapes her past by moving to a coastal area near Brickburgh in Devon England. Artifacts and remains from thousands of years ago are discovered in a nearby cave and this discovery definitely has Kat’s attention. Our second protagonist, Helene, has a very personal tie to the Brickburgh caves. Her brother, Lincoln, vanished six years ago while he spent time there recording subterranean sounds. Helene and Kat are thrown together during the course of their individual journeys and are forced to move forward together in a place where they are not welcome.

Wow, Nevill sure knows how to write folklore, and HORROR. This book hit every mark for me. The writing is exquisite, the storytelling incredible, and the horror unapologetic. And oh my goodness, do I love Kat and Helene.

If you like horror with complex storylines, wonderful characters, a rough coastal setting, archeological digs, cannibalism and cults, then you’ve found the right book. There is a reason why Nevill’s fans have been recommending his books to me - I am so glad I am finally among them. ★★★★★

Weekly #bookrecquickies are here! And up first is NINTH HOUSE by @lbardugo. It’s deliciously dark and disturbing which I love! Did I mention IT’S DARK?? So no, it’s most definitely not a YA fantasy. It’s very adult with elements of fantasy, mystery, magic, and ghosts! And it’s phenomenal. Plus every time I look at this beautiful blue edition from @waterstones my eyes sparkle 🐍🐍

This gorgeous book is filled with in depth information about everything under the sun (pun intended), including the earth, our solar system, and beyond as well as details on the formation of the universe, stars, and planets. I found the section on exoplanets and the search for extraterrestrial life to be especially intriguing.

If you are looking for a comprehensive and stunner of a book about the universe that will sit prettily on your coffee table, this is the book for you. 💫💫💫💫💫

I finished @aliwong’s book a few days ago and I have to say, she’s hilarious. I enjoyed her raunchy sense of humor immensely. Her writing style is fresh and she certainly doesn’t hold anything back. I highly recommend this one!

#BookReview | The cover of @adamlgnevill’s THE REDDENING first caught my eye on @mother.horror’s page when she posted her special edition copy. Unfortunately for me the hardcovers were all sold out, but Adam kindly offered to send me a free signed paperback. He is incredibly generous and I am so grateful for my copy because, guess what?!...I loved it.

Kat is a lifestyle journalist who escapes her past by moving to a coastal area near Brickburgh in Devon England. Artifacts and remains from thousands of years ago are discovered in a nearby cave and this discovery definitely has Kat’s attention. Our second protagonist, Helene, has a very personal tie to the Brickburgh caves. Her brother, Lincoln, vanished six years ago while he spent time there recording subterranean sounds. Helene and Kat are thrown together during the course of their individual journeys and are forced to move forward together in a place where they are not welcome.

Wow, Nevill sure knows how to write folklore, and HORROR. This book hit every mark for me. The writing is exquisite, the storytelling incredible, and the horror unapologetic. And oh my goodness, do I love Kat and Helene.

If you like horror with complex storylines, wonderful characters, a rough coastal setting, archeological digs, cannibalism and cults, then you’ve found the right book. There is a reason why Nevill’s fans have been recommending his books to me - I am so glad I am finally among them. ★★★★★

Weekly #bookrecquickies are here! And up first is NINTH HOUSE by @lbardugo. It’s deliciously dark and disturbing which I love! Did I mention IT’S DARK?? So no, it’s most definitely not a YA fantasy. It’s very adult with elements of fantasy, mystery, magic, and ghosts! And it’s phenomenal. Plus every time I look at this beautiful blue edition from @waterstones my eyes sparkle 🐍🐍

I found the section on exoplanets and the search for extraterrestrial life to be especially intriguing.
