Review: JANE DOE by Victoria Helen Stone

Thank you so much Amazon Publishing for providing my free copy – all opinions are my own.Ā

Description:Ā

Janeā€™s days at a Midwest insurance company are perfectly ordinary. She blends in well, unremarkably pretty in her floral-print dresses and extra efficient at her low-level job. Sheā€™s just the kind of woman middle manager Steven Hepsworth likesā€”meek, insecure, and willing to defer to a man. No one has any idea who Jane really is. Least of all Steven. But plain Jane is hiding something. And Stevenā€™s bringing out the worst in her. Nothing can distract Jane from going straight for his heart: allowing herself to be seduced into Stevenā€™s bed, to insinuate herself into his career and his family, and to expose all his dirty secrets. Itā€™s time for Jane to dig out everything that matters to Steven. So she can take it all away. Just as he did to her.

My Review:Ā

This is one of the most refreshing, wickedly smart, psychological thrillers Iā€™ve read in a long time! The entire story is told through the eyes of a self-aware sociopath, Jane Doe. Sheā€™s cold, manipulative, sarcastic, vindictive, analytical, devious, and hilarious – I so want to be friends with her! I absolutely loved being inside her head. The story centers on Janeā€™s sudden need for revenge, and she has her sights set on one person, Stephen Hepsworth. Heā€™s a control freak that preys on women he can manipulate into submission. Jane commits fully and travels far to carry out a very clever and cunning plan, so watch out Stephen…

I was completely captivated by Janeā€™s observations and inner monologue as sheā€™s incredibly honest, complex, and interesting. I have a very dry sense of humor so Jane and I could totally be best buds. I donā€™t know what it is but I really dig the super honest characters that showcase good and bad qualities; a shade of grey if you will. Jane may have all the attributes that make up a sociopath, but sheā€™s also quite endearing. Sheā€™s not doing this blindly – there are good reasons, so itā€™s easy to root for our dear, fiendishly smart, methodical Jane. Reading Janeā€™s thoughts and plans pretty much made my summer reading better. JANE DOE is an intelligent, razor sharp, sexy thriller without surprising plot twists and unreliable narrators. Just plain Jane. BUY. THIS. BOOK.

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars!
